      I responded to a “guitarist wanted for band” ad on craigslist and I got a reply pointing me to their reverbnation page (” Check us out on face book and reverb nation the band is called [x] 4 piece female fronted I’m the singer”). So I went to reverbnation got their track and recorded a rough cut of their #1 song this morning in about an hour and a half. I’m so impressed with myself for transcribing on the fly 😀 even tho its not perfect.

      My guitar on Right, their album track in Left. {see recording notes at bottom}

      This was the craigslist ad.

      Pop Punk band looking for guitarist for band ..Have equipment , can practice once a week , no FLAKES , can play LA < Vegas & beyond ... 30 to 45 , likes Punk ,alternative music .. em for details got shows coming up

      Errrr.. Ummm I like punk, sure, I like fans with pink hair, that counts right?

      Actually tho, this is a very good musical exercise. These newbie bands have much simpler songs, so they are easy to follow, compared to higher level pro bands. The solo in this song, uhh just root notes of the very simple chord progression unless I am totally missing something.

      Recorded in Reaper.. I did it the fake way.. cut up the song into sections and record each section separately, so I wouldn’t have to remember the entire song. Worked somewhat okay.

      Recording settings:
      “Headphone out” of amp connected to “line in” of laptop. amp volume “3”.
      Fender mustang mini amp set to yellow channel “American 90s” + default chorus effect
      guitar knob set to EMG85s only, pu switch bridge+neck, eq’s set to half, volume 10

      facepalm of the week.
      This band just emailed me back asking if I checked em out yet. I said yea, here’s the mp3 of my rough cover of your first EP’s #1 song on reverb nation.

      they reply.. “that’s not us lol”

      Their band name is the same as another pop punk band on reverb nation. They didnt provide a link of course.. just said find us on reverbnation.. both bands have female frontmen.. So I found the wrong band. The reverb nation URL’s are near identical, for the one I found it’s just blahblah and for this band it’s blahblah2. both bands are also on facebook with the same name (but I didnt check facebook because my system blocks facebook on purpose).

      The good news is that the song I recorded I didnt like that much anyways ;-D It was weirding me out with the kind of religious lyric in the middle. Still, a good musical exercise.

      The correct band is much more gritty angry classic punk rock, not tween punk. whew.
