a bandmate turned me on to this killer tune years ago.
we actually did the gary moore version.
i suppose my version here is somewhere between the two.
always a fun one to play.

rock and roll ain't pretty; that's why they picked us to play it.

I always liked that song, nice.

Only recently did I start looking at early Free songs that Paul and Simon didn’t also play in Bad Co. Kossoff’s playing was outstanding for it’s time especially, too bad he too also became another casualty of substance abuse. I was playing around learning a song I discovered and heard them play at Isle of Wight in 70’.

Paul remains healthy and at great vocalist at advanced age, unlike the guys like DLR, Vince, etc who are 10-15 years younger.

Did you ever listen to Paul Rodgers “The Hendrix Set”? He recorded that and “Muddy Water Blues”, great covers with various guitarists.

Joe Bonamassa has said that Paul Kossoff was one of his influences–particularly his vibrato.

My biggest fear is when I die, my wife will sell my guitars for what I told her they cost.

Good job. I always like the way you don’t seem to feel that you have to be a slave to the record.

I used to play this song with a couple other people. Always liked it, ever since I was a little kid

other than all right now i mostly got turned onto free tunes thru covers – gary moore and wishing well and ace frehley with fire and water. was always a bad company fan but free seems to get overlooked. but the paul rodgers and simon kirke team proved to be successful twice.

and yeah i like putting a little of myself into my covers. when van halen did tgeir covers – you really got me; pretty woman; etc – eddie certainly didn’t feel obligated to play it like the original. heck, randy didn’t play the sabbath tunes he did with ozzy like tony. if i couldn’t put a little of myself in them i would lose interest as it would feel pointless to me.

rock and roll ain't pretty; that's why they picked us to play it.
