This is a great article that shows many of the tricks we are already using and a few new ones to boot.  I know I am doing some of these things and will pull the others in as I go. What about you? Got any other practice tricks? Slowing down really helped me.

Hope I’m not creating spam, but Dr. Kageyama’s official site, https://www.bulletproofmusician.com has lots of good information.

Safetyblitz, did you take the Beyond Practicing course? It looks intriguing…

The free PDF is also useful.  His PDF is about macro practice skills and the material presented above fits in somewhere at either the 10,000ft or microscopic details levels.  Combining both will really help anyone out. Plus, don’t forget Doug’s articles on the same topics:

Here is my top practice hint for being a top practitioner:

      1. Sell your TV

      I'm an intermediate student of Metal Method. I play seitannic heavy metal. All Kale Seitan! ♯ ♮ ♭ ø ° Δ ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬
And on the Seventh Day, Mustaine said: ∇ ⨯ E = - ∂B / ∂t ; and there was Thrash; and it had a ♭3; and it was good.

      I agree!

I am thankful I saw the birth of a cassette player, VHS, TRS80 computer, Atari, etc. All these new things didnt distract us. They were just fill ins.

Now people cant go 10 minutes without checking LINE, Facebook, TV on 24/7, texting etc.

Use the PC/phones for learning and learning tools during practice

For me…I still like to see it all on paper. I print all the lessons and read from them

I learned this trick from Oz Fox from Stryper. 5  min drills of anything you’re  practicing.Jot down a few things you want to cover like repeating licks, scales a phrase or whatever. Set your metronome set the timer to 5 minutes and do the drill then the next etc.. Before you know it a 1/2 hr has passed or longer it’s up to you.Practice slow and clean and concentrate.Keep notes of bpm for each drill or a quick reference like “watch pinky” or whatnot for next time.I find it easier to find the time to practice and track progress.

I do all my practice watching tv. I find it a usefull distraction when doing finger strenghtning excercises or learning new techniques that require repetition. My teacher told me to try this a while ago. I find it works really well for me and makes practice more enjoyable.
