I’m always a bit suspicious of google and many other cloud sites though this could be interesting if anyone here is running local amateur guitar lesson groups like ROTM was before and wants some simple place (for no cost) to post work that others get assigned to do, not sure, haven’t tried it.

In 2017, Google opened Classroom to allow any personal Google users to join classes without the requirement of having a G Suite for Education account, and in April of the same year, it became possible for any personal Google user to create and teach a class. Google Classroom integrates Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Forms, Google Sites, Gmail, among others, to help educational institutions transition to a paperless system. Google Calendar was later added to help with assignment due dates, field trips, and class speakers.[8] Students can be invited to classrooms through the institution’s database, through a private code that can then be added in the student’s user interface or automatically imported from a school domain. Each class created with Google Classroom creates a separate folder in the respective user’s Google Drive, where the student can submit work to be graded by a teacher.

Google Classroom is pretty awesome. I use it literally every day to check student work, post assignments, and provide feedback, all from my phone.

How do students get around the privacy problem, where Google Classroom requires linking from a google account, and creating an arbitrary secondary google account for Classroom is not possible because google requires a unique phone number for new account verification, etc? Or does the school itself create new anonymous/’private’ google accounts for students because of a partnership with Google?

For example, I can’t really go on there and create a ‘superblonde’ Google classroom account, as far as I know. I would have to link it to my permanent google account (real name, etc).

Our school district creates Gmail accounts for all of our students/staff/faculty and the students use those for everything. To my knowledge it’s nothing you can’t do on your own, but yes you need a Gmail account for Google Classroom.

Privacy is a dated concept for old people. 😂 My students literally DO NOT CARE AT ALL if their data is shared, their phones listen to their conversations, their locations are tracked, etc.
