I purchased the MM package and have nothing but good stuff to say about it so far! Its been very helpful and informative and I havent even peeked at the Speed and Accuracy or the Classic Guitar licks yet. I have just begun stage 5 and I hear something to the effect of,” E phrygian minor whatchawhosits, sometimes i flatten the fifth thingamabob, to make it sound like more of a diminished somethingorother..”. And I continue to watch thinking Doug is gonna chuckle or throw in a ” just kidding”, but that didn’t occur. Granted, he did say he would go more into the phrygian part in stage 6, but what about the rest of that stuff?

I could have sworn I was paying attention in stages 1-4! I really wanna make my own music so I am hoping the rest of stage 5 or stage 6 helps. I guess my question is, should i get more acclamated to theory before i continue with stage 5? And if so, would the melodic principals vids be of help for a novice? I am certainly not afraid to admit that I am flat out,” theory- retarded”, and it has been my stumbling block for many, many, many years. Thanks for any input! sorry so long winded.

Check out Stage 6.  Even though it’s the last Stage in the course it was placed there only because beginners and intermediates would rather rock than understand music theory.  Check it out and let me know what you think.  You’re right, I was getting a little ahead of myself in Stage 5.  I refer to Phrygian before I explain Phrygian.

…would the melodic principals vids be of help for a novice?.

Thanks for asking!  If you made it through Stages 1-4 you are definitely ready for Melodic Principles.  🙂

Very definitely.  Good finger exercises too.

Songwriting course may be of interest.. a thread about the pro and con:

      songwriters package

Could use a couple more experimental metalheads around here, I seem to learn something new every time someone posts an in-progress track, bouncing ideas around and stuff.

Melodic Principles helped me right away. I need to finish it. By the way, that whole package is good. I have it myself, and it’s the best money I’ve spent in years. You’ll love it.

Thanks for the input folks! Will check out stage 6, and definatly pick up melodic principals as soon as ,”she who must be obeyed”, err, the wife, gives me the fiscal thumbs up!

So far, great products, great customer service, helpful people on the forum,(including the instructors themselves?!?!), maybe if you stick with it Mr. Marks, this little company of yours might take off one day! =)
