      amazing concept, eh.

Build a mobile sound system for off-grid concerts and dance parties!

This setup uses dual 12″ PA speakers. A hidden below-board 24V battery keeps the handling stable. The flat-bed trailer design is easy to build, lightweight and durable. We integrated ~150W amps inside each speaker, but other amp configurations are possible.

Compared to other trailer-based systems this project uses improved layout and components to greatly reduce weight and improve power efficiency without any added cost. Overall power efficiency is 2x to 5x better than alternative setups. Total trailer weight as shown is about 95 lbs, compared to a traditional car-battery-powered setup at 150 – 200 lbs.

2 x 12V, 18Ah capacity SLA rechargeable batteries (also known as “sealed lead acid” or “gel cell”). Together this is about 1/2 the weight of a car battery and it powers my setup for 8 hours at full volume.

To get full volume from the setup you need a small powered stereo mixer. The mixer will also let you plug in a microphone and additional sound sources so its convenient. I used a Rolls MX51S, you can get this from parts-express.com or amazon.com, it does the job for about $55.

This I really like.  Hiding the battery below for stability is good.  I need one of these trailers!  But first I need to play more guitar. Heh.

Quite a while ago I hacked up my small Fender Mustang Mini amp to put a UPS battery inside it, and I gotta say that it works GREAT! Ive been able to take this amp to open mics (plug the headphone out into the sound guy’s board for audio, internal speaker is not used), house parties, practicing outside, just pick up & go, rarely need to recharge, and when getting there, no need to find a plug to plug in, play for hours without worries. Best upgrade ever. It must last easily over 10 hours on a single top up before getting down to 50% level, I really have no idea because anytime I recharge it, it seems to only have gone down to 75-80% or so. The battery was only $25 from an online store, 7 Ah I believe, weighs a few lb. When I wired it up, I added an inline fuse just in case (dont want a big battery short circuiting).

as far as I could ever tell, the mustang mini is the same DSP as the fender mustang floor (pedal modeler), both mustang v1.

The mustang mini has an internal battery holder for 6 C batteries.. which end up lasting only like 3 hrs max ($$$) and rechargables seemed to last less, like just over 2 1/2 hrs.. that’s not even a single day’s worth of jamming. The amp is really power hungry probably because of it’s internal digital design compared to the tiny roland amps using AA batteries for maybe 4 hrs.. (the battery operated Roland amps dont sound very good to me, and they’re solid state, not DSP modelers)

Anyways, its something to easily do for upgrading any practice amp.
