Kala U-Bass Demo with Rob Scallon

imagine that, a bass that doesn’t weigh 20 lbs and fits in a small soft gigbag.. cool!

i got re-interested in these instruments because i watched a high level jazz band’s video, the bassist was playing one (amazingly enough). good enough for him, then good enough for me.

      – same range as electric bass guitar (*see disclaimer)
      – uses synthetic strings
      – sounds fat like an upright bass
      – either 4-string or 5-string
      – there’s a fretless one too! whoa
      – the downside: definitely look like a dork
      – the other downside: one review states ” It is not practical to play above the 12th fret of the 16-fret rosewood fingerboard, as the intonation up there is not great” … “The neck affords you easy access to 22 of the 24 frets, although the string response limits the usefulness of that register.”

Gold Tone Microbass might be a more realistic instrument, has a longer scale length than ubass yet still much smaller & lighter than normal bass. (23″ or 25″) which in overall length dimensions equivalent to a fender strat.

Our most popular instrument ever! The MicroBass line gives you all the power of an acoustic-electric bass in a light-weight, travel-sized package. You can choose between 23″ or 25″ scale, fretted or fretless, and polymer strings (which give you a sound like an upright bass) or the Silverbacks (which are like a more traditional bass string). These options, combined with the piezo pickup and built-in tuner, give you the ultimate bass that is tailored to your playstyle!
