On the jazz MOOC, Hamilton college one, the professor streamed a live jazz performance with his jazz band and answered a few questions from the student audience, including this funny story. The question was, how do the band members play or rehearse with a vocalist. Especially for those times when the vocalist, even if experienced, doesn’t really know music. He answered by telling this story. One time, his fellow jazz professor was rehearsing with a very top level jazz vocalist. They played the song thru and then the vocalist told the musicians, “This song is too high for my voice. Can you play it in minor instead?”
