Just bought myself a Rivera Rockcrusher online today. With this I should have a pretty complete recording rig set up where I shouldn’t have to rely on any VSTs as far as the guitar tracks go. What’s nice is the 11 band EQ so that I can pretty much get the sound of any speaker/cab combo I want! Also would be great for gigs using the speaker outs to go to a cabinet to be used as a monitor and the XLR out to go to the PA. Really looking forward to this thing coming and will put up a video of it in action!

Just letting everyone know that I haven’t forgot about this thread! I’ve been in contact with one of the sales guys at Sweetwater and what’s taking so long is that they’re waiting for Rivera to manufacture more units! I guess there was a high demand leading up to the holidays or something. Anyways, I’ll put up a video once I get it and set it all up! In the meantime I got myself a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 audio interface. A pretty nifty unit! Love it!

After a long delay in manufacturing, it finally arrived! Will post a video soon of this thing.

Here are a couple videos showing the sound, Might be tough to tell the difference with just my phone. Also, if the unattenuated sound sounds more heavy, it’s only cause the low volume gives the cab a lot more bass and it’s just pushing air. The attenuated tone with the Rockcrusher definitely has a lot more heaviness when volumes are higher which makes the extra basiness go away when unattenuated.

I also have been using a focusrite and it’s solid so far, the one with 4 xlr’s on front (I think it is the 18i something?). I havent used the app that it comes with yet but I think the app opens a lot of possibilities for recording. It’s a good setup to record my vocal+drum pedal+guitar simultaneously. I noticed it has higher hiss than I expected with the knobs turned up all the way, not sure if that is just my setup or not.

For the rockcrusher.. “Rockcrusher definitely has a lot more heaviness when volumes are higher” .. that must mean it’s doing some compression right? It sounds great, whatever it is doing. Or alternatively with attenuation, I guess the tubes get to be driven harder, and the tubes will be doing a compression on their own, so that might be what it is doing?

      I'm an intermediate student of Metal Method. I play seitannic heavy metal. All Kale Seitan! ♯ ♮ ♭ ø ° Δ ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬
And on the Seventh Day, Mustaine said: ∇ ⨯ E = - ∂B / ∂t ; and there was Thrash; and it had a ♭3; and it was good.

All we need to know is that more of the tubes getting utilized, the better the sound. 🙂 I’m not sure if the Rockcrusher compresses the noise at all or how much if it does, I just know it has the reactive load going on.

Very cool videos, Brett!  Do you have a Zoom or something like that to record the audio?  🙂

I could put it all in a DAW with my Rockcrusher, I’ll have to see if the bypass for the attenuation on it still allows the signal to go to the line outs so I can compare both.
