Thomas here, I’m 31 from the Detroit area. I recently purchased the Complete Guitar Course about 3 weeks ago, and loving it. I’d just like to thank Doug Marks, the Metal Method crew, and everyone on the forums here for bringing the excitement back from when I picked up my first guitar!
First picked up guitar about 10 years ago, but quickly got frustrated and gave up with lack of quality instruction and no funds for private lessons. Really wish someone told me about Metal Method back then, maybe my gear wouldn’t of sat for years collecting dust.
Fast forward to a few months ago, picked up Rocksmith 2014. Guitar was fun again but I still didn’t know anything. JustinGuitar was recommended by nearly everyone I knew, and while it seems there’s a ton of good info on there it just wasn’t doing it for me. Saw someone mention metalmethod.com on reddit, now that’s more like it! I pulled the trigger that night after crawling the website/forums, and watching nearly everything posted on youtube. Couldn’t be happier.
I’m a complete noob, and currently starting week 6, but already I’ve noticed improvement with my playing. More important than that, I don’t want to put the guitar down! The last month, I’ve been playing at least 4 hours a day between the weekly lessons and Rocksmith 2014. Yesterday was the first break I got in a while, my squishy finger tips were thanking me.
Can’t wait to see where I’ll be in a year.

Cool beans. If you’re on reddit, I think it would be great for Doug to be on one of their AMA’s. Something you can check out hooking up maybe?
I'm an intermediate student of Metal Method. I play seitannic heavy metal. All Kale Seitan! The glutens will be eaten with relish!
And on the Seventh Day, Mustaine said: ∇ ⨯ E = - ∂B / ∂t ; and there was Thrash; and it had a ♭3; and it was good.

You’re absolutely correct “More important than that….” It makes me very happy to read that because that’s definitely the key. You may have seen my most recent poll concerning the Complete Guitar Course. More than half of those that responded reported sporadic practice. That won’t get the job done and helping students overcome that problem is number one on my list of things to do. Please share this with others. There are things that you are experiencing that others need to be made aware of. Thanks

No sleight against Doug (or Justin), but can you say anything more about why you feel Justin’s stuff didn’t click with you?

Good to have you man!
As for the Justinguitar thing.. Doug’s hair kicks more butt that’s why. 😉 For the making practice time everyday, it’s all discipline. We literally need to force ourselves sometimes, but even when we force ourselves, once we pick it up and start playing, we know we’re not going to put it back down so quickly haha.
Bring hair metal back!

I mostly just lurk on social media, but I am a member of the FB group. I hit join when there was 47 members, nearly double that now! I’ve been watching the group, seems to be the exact same community that’s on here, so i’m going to have to force myself to use it.
I did see the practice poll, and even voted in it. Was surprised to see the results. Guess life happens and not everyone works nights and is a social outcast like me. Not much else to do at 1am-4am. hehe
As for JustinGuitar, it’s mostly the presentation. Not really sure how to explain it, but it just couldn’t hold my interest. I’ll be reading a page or watching a video, and half way through I’ll zone out and have to redo everything again.
It’s nothing against them, there’s good information on there and I know a lot of people who have had great success, It’s just my brain is very picky with this type of stuff. I can have two people say the exact same thing, and one I’ll hang on to every word the other I’ll just stare at confused. Can be really frustrating for me, and those around me.
Or perhaps I need that extra incentive of dropping a good bit of cash on it, to force myself to get my monies worth. I dunno.
