just as a goof to see if anyone would like my song i entered this tune in 94.5 wxkr next to rock contest not figuring anything would come of it.today i got a call from the radio station saying that it was one of the finalists & they want “the band” to perform next thursday in toledo. sadly i have to call back & decline because this was done as an online collaboration. there isn’t a band named RightOnTheMark. and, the band i was in i recently quit. but, since there is interest in the song maybe i can sell it to a recording artist…???…hhhmmm…now how to go about doing something like that?

rock and roll ain't pretty; that's why they picked us to play it.

Congrats! That could be a foot in the door, or at least inspiration for a start to something.

Cheap Guitars (with some exceptions) play just about as good as expensive ones. It's your ability combined with an awesome amp that makes the difference.

“sell it to a recording artist…???…hhhmmm…now how to go about doing something like that?”

one of the great moments I had when meeting a pro artist this past year, I said, “hey so uhhhh I wrote a song and maybe uhh thought you might like to uhh check it out to see if you like it?” hah. He said: “Cool just email it to us, our email address is blah blah at yahoo.com Nah we dont give a fff about labels, we play what we want, if we like something we will play it.” 😀 Of course I didnt do that because my song sucks 😀

Anyway as strange as it seems.. it might be that the answer is to simply email it to a band’s main songwriter. With rock being dead, the artists manage their own social media accounts and there is not so much fan mail as previous decades right? (because rock is not on the charts anymore) so it seems like artists are easier to reach than ever.

    Congrats on the song.

I tried to get my former vocal group on the radio. They wouldnt do it.. I think local radio has a lot of opportunities right now, they are not exactly getting hammered with demand, you know? Even in 2017 I think local radio is cool.

Maybe have the radio station pay to fly guys out? Awesome that you were able to raise eyebrows in places that many never do!

ROTM an interesting option to consider is having a guest guitarist on your song, vs trying to shop a song around. I hope someday to write a song cool enough have a guitar hero to play a solo on it (some $$$ involved obviously to pay for time). Which isnt something I thought was possible, since I guess it is easy to forget that our heros are actually hard working musicians who are willing to write and/or play solos or parts for serious songwriters. One of the other students here, wrote & recorded an album with an orchestra on it, pretty incredible.
