The really good news is that there will probably be some good deals on used HD500s when this thing comes out.

$1500 as a price point is pretty steep.

For that price, it better fold my laundry and do the dishes too.

I’m with you.  I just bought my HD500, and when I first saw the Helix announcement I thought crap, now I have to buy one of those.  But at $1500 I’m not getting one any time soon.

    The Helix looks amazing, though.

Wow, that’s expensive.  I have bought a fair amount of Line6 gear over the years, and usually sold it within a year or two just because things are evolving so quickly. If you spend a couple of hundred bucks, and take a bit of a bath that’s one thing. But $1500?  Wow.

Anyone get the urge to pick up a Helix yet?

I'm an intermediate student of Metal Method. I play seitannic heavy metal. All Kale Seitan! The glutens will be eaten with relish!
And on the Seventh Day, Mustaine said: ∇ ⨯ E = - ∂B / ∂t ; and there was Thrash; and it had a ♭3; and it was good.

I’m starting to get the urge just because I like new tech, but I’m still very happy with my pod.  If I’m still playing by next summer, I might seriously start thinking about it.  Usually that’s how long I plan these things.

I’m very interested, but even with something as well-reviewed as this, companies usually find ways to improve it in a followup version. Plus, I expect the Helix and the Firehawk to converge eventually. Given the steep price and the fact I don’t have an urgent *need* for this, I’ll wait to see what the next iteration looks like.

Reviews on Sweetwater are very positive though, especially re: ease of use and how good the amp modeling is:

I have no interest. My current unit is more than I need, and that price is too high.

Maybe I’m turned off the helix until otherwise convinced. This locals-orignals-band show tonite, the headliner (for a CD release party) was using a helix into a fender deluxe which was mic’ed. This was after the band I’m following played, and they only use Orange (guitarist uses Dual Terror, and I think it was an Orange cabinet, the small black one– or maybe it was a different small cabinet.. then bassist uses.. whatever the big Orange bass head is called plus Orange cabinet). The tone was so super ‘flat’ for the helix band, I didnt know what they were using to sound so hollow, finally got annoyed enough at the flat sound, to crowd into the front row to see. (Also not sure why he was using the Fender’s since I figured the huge advantage of the pedal was XLR-out-direct..)

I think this was the second show this has happened though, that some band’s sound has kind of annoyed me, then I checked out their equipment and found it was helix or very similar modeler. Strange!
