I just came across this video of George Lynch in the studio in 1990 when he was tracking for his first Lynch Mob album.

I have one of his instructional DVDs that that video clip is a part of. He’s amazing. The DVD is just titled “George Lynch” I recommend it. He shows you how to play some of his signature riffs and licks. The tab is included and is very nice. Just print all the pages and staple it to make a booklet.

He is a monster guitar player! I grew up during the 80’s so I was a huge fan of Dokken, and I still am 😀

Below, new Lynch video. Great video, more of a playing demo than a guitar clinic.
      Here’s some points I noticed.
.. interesting to see him play then get out of sequence with his backing track then get back in sequence.
.. good camera angle to see his alternating between using pick and using thumb

dolken was my fave of the 80s hair bands when i was in high school.
i used to always say george lynch was my favorite living guitarist (randy rhoads being my all time favorite).

and did anyone else notice how high his guitar is?
and the neck still slanted upward and at pretty good degree.
i used to think i strapped my guitar on too high but i think george’s is even higher than mine.
and it doesn’t look nerdy at all – because…well…he kills it when he plays. \m/

rock and roll ain't pretty; that's why they picked us to play it.

I noticed how incredibly flat his wrist is. No matter what he’s doing or where he is at on the neck or whether his thumb is over the top or behind the neck. His wrist is always 100% flat, aka, straight out, no wrist bend. Sometimes his elbow flies way up in the air but wrist says straight.

Check out his trick at 27:59 (like capo with right hand while left hand plays legato) and also 28:16 (turns volume knob, plays strings above nut for chime effect, turns volume knob back to normal). Well okay so there is one tiny advantage to having guitars with headstocks, cause cant do that on a headless, ha. 😀

Lynch was one of the most totally awesome guitar players to come out of the 80’s and there were many awesome players of that era. The one gripe I have against him is for popularizing those goofy looking, hockey stick reverse headstock guitars!

Cheap Guitars (with some exceptions) play just about as good as expensive ones. It's your ability combined with an awesome amp that makes the difference.
