I was invited to a halloween house party (held last Sat) hosted by my fellow band mate guitarist. Lots of other local amateur musicians also came, mostly acoustic guitarists and 60s-70s classic rock fans, including a couple local pro’s or former pro’s. “Bring your instruments and battery powered amps and lets play” the invite said. I got there fashionably late and no one had set up the stage yet so I got to work on that and had everything plugged in and everyone motivated within a few minutes.. someone brought a full wood head e-drum e-cymbal kit and carpet and huge cab, someone brought a vocal PA and mic stands and a cheap mic, a couple guitarists had their battery powered Roland micro cubes, etc. The drummer was drum student – her first time playing out in public (woman in her.. 40s? I’d guess) – turned out she really held it down for her first time.
We had our guitars ready and plugged in and amps humming. Then what happens at a party with a lot of guitarists. “Uhmm.. what should we play? Um. How about some Stones?” .. “Ok! Yeah! Stones! Start Me Uuuuuupppp!!” …”Ehhh? No one wants to sing?” 13 guitarists both amateur and pro at a house party and no one wants to sing.
So what do I do: “I’ll sing.”
HAHA
What else to do, I dont know how to play their chosen songs on guitar, I cant just stand there all plugged in, with nothing to contribute right? Altho I have never sung a Stones song in my life either. Yes really. I’m too young for Stones era. Not even sung along on the radio. Maybe I hummed the melody along to some regular dive bar cover band many times in the past, because I dont know the words. So I said, “OK who has an ipad. I need an ipad. You know, to bring up the lyrics.” I quickly got out my wav recorder so I could review the catastrophe later. So an iPad appeared..
The result!
The guitarist on the Stones song was a local gigging cover band guy in decades past. He was playing a variax (which he said he loves and never touches his other guitars anymore) and playing thru a Roland micro cube. Amazing!
Another goal accomplished!
Hope everyone also had good halloween parties. Holidays are coming up, get ready to impress some people at seasonal get together’s.
One of the women at the party came up later to insist that I had to keep singing because I’m a natural talent and she would love to see me soon at blah blah. Hmm what do you guys think, was she… Ehh. Well whatever. I’m in it for the music. ;-D ;-D

And on the Seventh Day, Mustaine said: ∇ ⨯ E = - ∂B / ∂t ; and there was Thrash; and it had a ♭3; and it was good. -

Nice work! Takes guts to get up and do that, especially with songs you don’t know.
