Very sad.  He was my favorite from the grunge era.  Great singer.  Later reported as probable suicide.

i know some people who were at the show last night and others who were hoping to see him at rock on the range this weekend.
by all accounts last night was a good show.
i guess the coroner has ruled it a suicide while the wife denies that he was depressed or suicidal. apparently she spoke with him not long before he took the stage last night.
suicide always leaves people wondering why.
it just so happens it was the 37th anniversary of joy division’s ian curtis death by suicide.
don’t know if there’s a connection or just a coincidence.
    he will be missed.

I met Chris at the Frontier Room in Seattle around 1990… I got to see Soundgarden at the Central Tavern in Seattle which is a TINY dive of a place.

It saddens me that a man who had talent and success couldn’t find the strength to work through his depression for his kids. I’ve suffered depression for many years and have had suicidal thoughts, but thoughts of my wife and children having to suffer through the loss of my life has always kept me here. It’s a shame Chris couldn’t do the same.

At almost the same time that Chris was dying, an 18-year-old here in Rochester was hit head on while driving home from her shift at Dairy Queen. She was one of the top 25 students in her class and would have graduated from high school in three weeks.

One chose to take his own life, the other had hers taken from her.

My heart goes out to both families. May they both rest in peace.

I have a hard time believing drugs were not involved. Cornell was always troubled with this. It’s amazing that music industry agents and managers dont insist on some kind of periodic professional therapist visits for traveling musicians.. so many heroes fall into a cycle of abuse, and the industry itself constantly pushes substances. One of the all time best rock vocalist songwriters is now gone as a result. I hope at some point the music industry grows up. What few frontmen are even left from the big heydays of rock.. artists need support.
