    The R’s on bar chords, which R defines what note  or chord its playing

    The lowest note is the root note. So if the lowest note is an E, then every E on the fretboard is a root, or an R.

    To be clear on this R does indeed typically represent the root of the chord BUT the lowest note of a chord can be ANY of the chord tones (R-3-5 or extension 7,9,11,13) and is refered to as the Bass note. If anything other than the root is in the bass you are dealing with an inversion 🙂
